Installing FP2000

Prerequisites

Must haves

	Operating system should be Win 98 or Win NT
	Win 98 CD

Or

	NT option pack with Personal Web server 4 (option pack 2?) – available from Microsoft web site but it’s part of a very big download
	Office 200 CD 1& 2

Nice to haves

	As with all Office 2000 products the more processor power and RAM the
	better
	Program also benefits from a larger monitor
	This process is assuming clean system with no existing Personal Web Server (PWS) or Front Page installs. If existing install exists remove all traces.

Install Personal Web Server 4

This can be found on the Win 98 CD – look for /addons/pws/setup.exe

Test PWS

	You should see a small white red and blue icon in the system tray after
	installation
	Double click on this icon
	Personal Web manager dialog will open
	Close the tip that opens
	In the Main window of the dialog box look for a link similar to http://servername (where "servername" is typically the name or number of your PC – make a note of this name you’ll need it later)
	Double click on this
	IE should open with the PWS 4 welcome page
	If page not found set "bypass proxy server for local addresses" in Internet options in IE4 and refresh page
	Close browser

Tips

	Must be PWS 4 - don’t use older versions
	Probably won’t work for Win 95
	Must be installed prior to Office Install
	Don’t attempt to download PWS at last minute (ZD work book agrees with me on this)

Install Office (FrontPage 2000)

Custom install

	Expand list for FrontPage
	For training you don’t need Server Extensions Resource Kit Server Extensions Admin Forms
	Set every thing else for FrontPage to run from computer
	Expand list for Office Tools
	Set all of: - Office Server Extensions Office Web Components
	To run from computer
	From rest of Office tools we need
	Proofing – Spell Checking
	If space permits Clip Art (default settings will give enough clipart for our needs)
	leave the rest of the Office tools set to the defaults if
	For custom training programs install PowerPoint for use in demonstrating conversion to HTML and ASF files.
	Proceed with install, system should reboot during install process
	Install process should detect presence of PWS and install office server extensions to PWS.

Test

	Open FrontPage 2000
	Choose File, New, Web
	Specify location of web should be set to http://servername/myweb (where "servername" is typically the name or number of your PC)
	Make sure you are creating a server-based web as above, not disk based (c:\my documents\my webs)
	Click OK
	Web will be created – this make take a moment
	If web is created – all is well – this means we can use PWS in course to test forms and other features that use PWS and office extensions
	If Test gives error message
	If error message appears it will say something like "office extensions
	not installed on PWS"

This error usually occurs if PWS 4 was not installed first

You can try the following utility to install the office 2000 extensions

	C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\BIN\fpsrvadm.exe
	In response to the prompts enter
	1 press enter
	1 press enter
	Leave blank – press enter
	When utility is finished reboot and try test again
